Princess Diana 1980-90s Fashion Icon

The Clothes Horse Ambassadress of Fashion

Throughout her brief life Princess Diana supported many British designers especially Arabella Pollen, Bruce Oldfield, Amanda Wakeley and Catherine Walker. Initially the Princess of Wales was encouraged by staff of Vogue to pursue a particular look.

As the 1980s progressed she gained confidence in her own fashion style and became more and more elegant as she began to understand what suited her. Diana became an icon in fashion history.

Diana started to wear clothes by international designers of her own choice including Versace, Christian Lacroix, Ungaro and Chanel.

PRINCESS DIANA’S KLONDIKE DRESS

Princess Diana's Klondike Ensemble is a Pink/Peach Silk Period Dress and Hat in the style of 1880 worn by her during a Royal Tour to Canada in 1983. The dress is a form-fitting princess line gown of wild silk, with swagged overskirt ruched at sides and back to reveal a silk lace flounced underskirt and back train; the lace is repeated at the collar, bodice jabot and cuffs. The dress also contains interior bodice boning. The hat consists of cream petal straw trimmed with period velours au sabre silk ribbon, silk flowers and pearl sprigs. Both the dress and hat are currently in excellent condition. Princess Diana wore the dress and hat June 1983, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, at a Klondike period gala event. The event was part of the Prince and Princess's Canadian Royal Tour of that year. In need of an appropriate gown for the occasion, she chose this one from a selection of period pieces brought to her at Kensington Palace by Oscar-winning costume designer John Bright, at whose studio, Cosprop, the dress was made. This dress, which Diana mischievously chose, was first worn by Francesca Annis in the 1978 mini-series "Lillie Langtry" (Lillie Langtry, along with Prince Charles's mistress Camilla Parker Bowles's great-grandmother, Alice Keppel, had both been mistresses of Charles's great-great grandfather Edward VII when he was Prince of Wales in the late 1800's). Linda Mattock [60] had designed this dress as a "Langtry" dress, exemplifying the essence of Lillie's style. Diana then had the Klondike dress personally fitted on her by Mr. Bright and he altered it to her measurements. Mr. Bright also designed the hat specifically for Diana to wear with the dress. After Princess Diana wore the dress and hat, John Bright stored them until they were sold in association with Bonham's of London to Dr. Michael H. Smith for the benefit of MediCinema (a charitable organization that enhances the care of hospital patients by providing free film screenings to them and their families) [53]. The dress is currently on loan to the University of Alberta's Clothing and Textiles Collection. The fairy-tale princess-like Klondike dress and hat is one of Diana's most published ensembles, with pictures of her wearing it appearing in over 50 publications, including books, magazines, CD ROMs, postcards, videos, etc. Even a doll has been made of her wearing the dress and hat.

On Princess Diana’s Death

On Monday 2006-02-06, the Daily Express carried the article copied below entitled ‘Diana Death: Spies flashed laser beam at crash driver’. The article makes a good plot. It is an excellent fusion of truths and half truths – it is plausible – it could have happened that way and indeed there currently stands sufficient quasi evidence and motive to prompt a conviction.

Quite simply – I believe it was an ‘accident’ (i.e. not planned nor pre-mediated by the British establishment or the Royal family). I understand there has been a cover up on certain matters such as Diana’s pregnancy but such cover is routinely applied in sensitive situations. I am informed that neither Prince Charles nor his sons were aware of Princess Diana’s condition – it seemed both privately and publicly prudent that such news was kept hidden.

Diana Car Accident Pictures
As part of a new inquiry in Princess Diana's Death New evidence including these pictures has been released.
Princess Diana was killed in a Mercedes car crash in Paris, France on August 31, 1997. The Princess was killed along with Dodi Al Fayed son of the wealthy Egyptian Harrod's owner, Mohammed Al Fayed and the driver Henri Paul. A bodyguard of Diana's named Trevor Rees-Jones survived the crash. Diana lived for about 2 hours after the crash and was treated both at the scene and in a Paris Hospital. The driver was allegedly speeding and under the influence of drugs and alcohol. There has been speculation that the car was speeding to avoid celebrity photographers (called paparazzi) who regularly followed the couple. There are also numerous conspiracy theories that she was murdered and investigations are still ongoing almost 10 years after the incident see the 20 questions raised at the inquest below. For unknown reasons, the car hit a pole in a tunnel at high speed, under Place de l'Alma in the center of Paris. Photos of the damage to car caused accident are reproduced here. This car accident is easily the most well known fatality of a world figure in a motor vehicle, mourned by millions of people.

Diana, Princess of Wales

What was it about Diana, Princess of Wales, that brought such huge numbers of people from all walks of life literally to their knees after her death in 1997? What was her special appeal, not just to British subjects but also to people the world over? A late spasm of royalism hardly explains it, even in Britain, for many true British monarchists despised her for cheapening the royal institution by behaving more like a movie star or a pop diva than a princess. To many others, however, that was precisely her attraction.

Diana was beautiful, in a fresh-faced, English, outdoors-girl kind of way. She used her big blue eyes to their fullest advantage, melting the hearts of men and women through an expression of complete vulnerability. Diana's eyes, like those of Marilyn Monroe, contained an appeal directed not to any individual but to the world at large. Please don't hurt me, they seemed to say. She often looked as if she were on the verge of tears, in the manner of folk images of the Virgin Mary. Yet she was one of the richest, most glamorous and socially powerful women in the world. This combination of vulnerability and power was perhaps her greatest asset.

Princess Diana Biography

"I lead from the heart...someone's got to go out there and love people..." Princess Diana

Princess Diana had royal blood in her veins it is true ( she was a descendant of King Charles 1 of England ) but she was a princess who let her human side show to the world. She battled various inner demons such as bulimia, suicidal tendencies and depression.

Her relationship with her husband, Prince Charles, was a rocky one...which was probably one of her biggest heartaches...the fairytale wedding was just that...a fantasy, and as the reality hit home, along with betrayal, media and public expectations, she was often overwhelmed and coped in less than healthy ways.

However, she was a down-to-earth person who was honest about her weaknesses and she chose to grow and learn from her mistakes. She had the ability to connect and communicate with folks at a heart level and did not buy into the idea that she was "better" than other people because of her position, but used her influence to make things better for others. People around the world respected Princess Diana's attitude and listened to what she had to say. The common person could relate to her personal challenges and saw her as a courageous, strong, compassionate woman who had the capacity to overcome her weaknesses and were thus inspired by her.

Princess Diana

Lady Diana Frances Spencer was just 20 when she married Prince Charles, heir to the throne of Britain, on 29 July 1981. Her beauty and youthful charisma quickly earned Diana the nickname of "the people's princess." She and Charles had two sons, William (b. 1982) and Harry (b. 1984). However, the marriage was troubled almost from the start, and its breakdown was daily fodder for tabloids during the 1990s. Diana and Charles were divorced in 1996 and Diana devoted her life to her two sons and to worldwide charities. She and her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, were killed in 1997 in a high-speed car crash while being followed by paparazzi in Paris, France. A French investigation showed that their driver, Henri Paul, was intoxicated. There followed years of allegations, led in part by Fayed's father Mohamed Al Fayed, that the pair had been victims of a conspiracy. A three-year British investigation concluded in 2006 that "there was no conspiracy to murder any occupants of that car. This was a tragic accident."

Extra credit: The British investigation also dismissed claims that Diana and Fayed were engaged to be married, and that Diana was pregnant... Mohamed Al Fayed owns the department store Harrods... A memorial concert for Diana, arranged by her sons, was held on July 2007 in London's Wembley Stadium. The date would have been Diana's 46th birthday... According to the web site of the Royal family, "The Princess was the first Englishwoman to marry an heir to the throne for 300 years (when Lady Anne Hyde married the future James II from whom the Princess was descended)"... Diana's nicknames included Lady Di, the People's Princess, and the Queen of People's Hearts... At Diana's funeral Sir Elton John sang "Goodbye England's Rose," a reworking of the tune "Candle In the Wind" which he had written earlier about Marilyn Monroe.

Diana joins actor James Dean and singer Lisa Lopes in our loop Death By Car... Other princesses of the era include Caroline of Monaco and Japan's Princess Masako.

Oprah Winfrey Biography - Profile (2)

Oprah Winfrey was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi on January 29, 1954 to an impoverished Baptist family. She was originally named Orpah Gail Winfrey, after the Bible's Book of Ruth. The midwife switched the "r" and the "p" around when she was writing the birth certificate so.

Biography and Career :

Oprah Winfrey's mother, Vernita Lee, was a housemaid, and her father, Vernon Winfrey, was a coal miner and, later, a barber; then, city councilperson. When Oprah Winfrey was born,Vernon was in the Armed Forces.

Her parents were unmarried teenagers when she was born. After Oprah Winfrey was born, her mother traveled north for better job opportunities, and Winfrey spent her first six years living with her Grandma Haitee Mae.

Oprah Winfrey's grandmother taught her to read and took her to the local church, where she was nicknamed "The Preacher" for her ability to recite Bible verses. Her grandmother helped her succeed. When Oprah Winfrey was little her grandmother would take a switch (in the South, that custom meant the thin green leafless shoot from certain trees - more for psychological effect than for pain) and would hit her with it when she didn't do chores or if she misbehaved in any way.

As a child, Oprah Winfrey showed signs of extraordinary intelligence and drive, such as learning to read at age two. At age six, Oprah Winfrey moved to Milwaukee with her mother, who was less supportive and encouraging than her grandmother. While there, Oprah Winfrey suffered abuse for her comparatively darker skin, such as being forced to sleep on the porch in the cold, and verbal abuse based on her features. Oprah Winfrey claims that she was raped at age 9, and repeatedly molested by her mother's cousin's boyfriend. After that she had to turn for support to her best friend, Amanda Oser. Oprah Winfrey became progressively sexually promiscuous, and at age 14 her mother sent her to live with her father in Nashville, Tennessee. Vernon was strict but encouraging, and made her education a priority. Oprah Winfrey became an honors student and received a full scholarship to Tennessee State University, a historically Black institution, where she studied communications. At age 18, Oprah Winfrey won the Miss Black Tennessee beauty pageant.

Brad Pitt Biography

With looks that have inspired countless People magazine covers, Internet shrines, and paparazzi blitzkreigs, Brad Pitt is an actor whose very name inspires drooling platitudes, more about male beauty than about acting. Following his breakthrough as the wickedly charming drifter who seduces Geena Davis and then robs her blind in Thelma & Louise (1991), Pitt became one of Hollywood's hottest properties and spent most of the 1990s being lauded as everything from Robert Redford's heir apparent to the Sexiest Man Alive.

Pitt's ascension to his celluloid throne was a long and sometimes frustrating one, however. The son of a trucking company manager, Pitt was born December 18, 1963, in Shawnee, OK. Raised in Missouri as the oldest of three children, and brought up in a strict Baptist household, Pitt enrolled at the University of Missouri, following high school graduation, studying journalism and advertising. However, after discovering his love of acting, he dropped out of college two credit hours before he could graduate and moved to Hollywood. Fearful of his parents' reaction, he told them he was going to Pasadena to study at the Art Center College of Design. Once in California, Pitt took acting classes and supported himself with a variety of odd jobs that included chauffeuring strippers to private parties, waiting tables, and wearing a giant chicken suit for a local restaurant chain. His first break came when he landed a small recurring role on Dallas, and a part in a teenage-slasher movie, Cutting Class (1989) (opposite Roddy McDowall), marked his inauspicious entrance into the world of feature films. The previous year, Pitt's acting experience had been limited to the TV movie A Stoning in Fulgham County (1988).

1991 marked the end of Pitt's obscurity, as it was the year he made his appearance in Thelma & Louise. After becoming famous practically overnight, Pitt unfortunately chose to channel his newfound celebrity into Ralph Bakshi's disastrous animation/live action combo Cool World (1992). Following this misstep, Pitt took a starring role in director Tom Di Cillo's independent film Johnny Suede. The film failed to score with critics or at the box office and Pitt's documented clashes with the director allegedly inspired Di Cillo to pattern the character of the vain and egotistical Chad Palomino, in his 1995 Living in Oblivion, after the actor. Pitt's next venture, Robert Redford's lyrical fly-fishing drama A River Runs Through It (2002), gave the actor a much-needed chance to prove that he had talent in addition to physical appeal, and doubtless drew on Pitt's religious upbringing (casting, as it did, the fair-haired actor as a minister's son),

Brad Pitt NOW.com: The Best Brad Pitt Site Ever

Brad Pitt (born William Bradley Pitt on December 18, 1963), is an American film actor.

He was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma to strictly Southern Baptist parents, and raised in Springfield, Missouri.

In high school, Brad was involved in sports, debating, student government, and school musicals. He attended the University of Missouri School of Journalism where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was two credits shy of graduating with a journalism degree, before trying his luck in Hollywood.

Before he became successful at acting, Brad supported himself by driving strippers in limos, moving refrigerators, and dressing as a giant chicken while working for the restaurant chain El Pollo Loco. In the late 1980s, Brad Pitt started landing acting gigs on prime-time series such as Dallas, thirtysomething, 21 Jump Street, Growing Pains, and Head of the Class. In 1988, he finally landed his first starring role in The Dark Side of the Sun. But as the film was being edited, civil war tore apart Yugoslavia, where location shooting was taking place. Most of the footage remained lost until 1996, when the film was finally released.
In 1991, Pitt finally got his big break in one of that year's biggest hits: Thelma & Louise as J.D., Thelma (Geena Davis)'s one-night stand who gives her tips on robbing 7-11 stores. He followed up that success with A River Runs Through It and Se7en.

In 1995, he was chosen by Empire magazine as one of the 25 sexiest stars in film history.

Brad Pitt was involved in a long-term relationship with actress Gwyneth Paltrow. They became engaged in December 1996, but it didn't last long and the two split up in June 1997. Extensive tabloid coverage surrounded the relationship. Nude photographs of the couple — taken by paparazzi without permission — controversially appeared in magazines.

Brad Pitt married Jennifer Aniston on July 29, 2000. Their separation was announced on January 7, 2005, and Aniston filed for a divorce on March 25 the same year. There has been speculation that on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, he and Angelina Jolie had an affair. Photographs have circulated in magazines of them as a couple. Pitt and Angelina Jolie have refused to speak about their current relationship, but deny having an affair while he was still married to Aniston.

Brad Pitt accompanied Jolie to Ethiopia in July 2005 to pick up her adopted daughter Zahara from an orphanage in that country. After returning, he was diagnosed with a mild case of viral meningitis. He checked himself into Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles but was released a few days later.

He was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the 1995 film Twelve Monkeys.

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Getting Married

Are Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finally tying the knot? The National Enquirer is reporting that the couple are planning a wedding. "In the past when Brad pressed her to get married, Angelina always said no because she was happy with the way things were," a family source was quoted.

"But when Brad proposed again after they discovered they were having twins, she decided to follow her heart. With the babies on the way, they felt the time was right." Ah, they already have 4 kids, so why now?

The Enquirer is claiming that it's learned "exclusive" details about the couple's secret wedding in early February while they attended the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where Angelina was honored with a prestigious award for her role in the film, A Mighty Heart.

"Angelina and Brad haven’t agreed on the exact time and place for their wedding, but they’re leaning toward having it on their beachfront property near Santa Barbara this spring,” said the inside source. "It will certainly occur well before Angelina gives birth, and it will be a very quiet, private affair with a few friends and close family. Brad’s folks will be there and, of course, Angelina’s brother. But the most important guests will be the children."

“They are 100 percent committed to each other, so a wedding will be the icing on the cake. They started out together on ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ on the big screen and now they are going to be Mr. & Mrs. Pitt.”

I'll be really surprised if these two ever tie the knot. But stranger things have happened!

I love being surprised. And honestly, Angelina isn't as red carpet shocking as she used to be. I think she just struck a balance in this lovely Ungaro yellow draped gown. It has the elegance that she now embodies but with a punchy color. Honestly, I never thought I would see Angelina in this daring youthful color; it's such a departure from her steely St. John Oscar gown. Do you love or hate?!

I've never seen Angelina more giddy. Angelina was radiating at the Kung Fu Panda photo call at the Cannes Film Festival in her white Thomas Wylde dress. I still can't make out what is on the dress. Is is a flower? A lobster? A lobster flower? Can you tell, and do you love it or hate it?

The Sexy's Picture of Angelina Jolie

Biography and Career of A. Jolie

She is known for her exotic looks, her tumultuous off-screen life and her humanitarian work with refugees. Regarding her family, Angelina Jolie is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand and sister of James Haven. She is also niece of Chip Taylor and the god-daughter of Jacqueline Bisset and Maximilian Schell. Her grandparents were French-Canadian and her paternal-grandfather was from Czechoslovakia. Thus, she is of Czech and English descent on her father's side and of French-Canadian and Iroquois on her mother's.

As a teenager , she dreamed of becoming a funeral director. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute from the age of 11, later attending Beverly Hills High School. Though Angelina Jolie enrolled at the film school at New York University after finishing "Gia", she did not complete her studies.

She has been long estranged from her father, blaming his infidelity for the break-up of the family , though a reconciliation was attempted by his appearing with her in "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider". In 2004, Angelina Jolie indicated that she was no longer interested in pursuing a relationship with her father, but that she did not hate him because she realised that "...we only have so much energy in this life". Soon afterwards, he claimed that she has "serious emotional problems" while she legally dropped Voight as her last name and took "Angelina Jolie" as new legal name.

Before Angelina Jolie began a career as an actress, she was a model.
Her first starring role came in the 1995 film Hackers. In 1998 Angelina Jolie achieved a major critical success, starring in the TV film "Gia", the true story of 1970-80s supermodel Gia Carangi, who died of AIDS. She won Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Golden Satmifie awards and was nominated for an Emmy.

She had roles in several box-office flops until 1999, when she co-starred in "The Bone Collector" with Denzel Washington and won an Oscar for "Girl, Interrupted". Beside the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, the latter movie also brought three Golden Globes. Her first healding blockbuster role came from "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider".

Several of her subsequent films, such as "Life or Something Like It", "Alexander" and "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" were box-office disappointments, although Jolie herself usually received good notices. She did provide the voice of Lola in the successful animated film "Shark Tale".

Jolie quickly became one of Hollywood's most "in-demand" actresses. Following the success of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" (2005), she was set to earn up to $15 million to star in the film "The Good Shepherd" (2006).

Apart from her acting and humanitarian endeavours, Jolie has worked as a professional model in London, New York and Los Angeles and appeared in numerous music videos, including those of Korn, Meat Loaf, Lenny Kravitz, and The Rolling Stones.

As for her private life, after divorcing from actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, Jolie has a wonderfull life with actor Brad Pitt, in a relationship that has captured worldwide media attention. Jolie and Pitt have three adopted children, Maddox, Pax and Zahara, and a biological child, Shiloh.

    • Notes

"... my daughter [Angelina Jolie] just has an incredible talent. The camera loves her. Of course I've always loved looking at Angie's face; that's the best scenery I can be around. That's my happiness and now it's the happiness of other people as well. Just look at that beautiful face and all the intelligence that it has and all the passion. It's quite extraordinary" - Jon Voight quoted in Time Out New York, Jan. 14-21, 1999
"I don't live two lives," she says. "I have the great good fortune of being able to have a fun job. It's a job that allows me to travel and that allows me, somtimes, to get out of myself. So that's my job. But it's not at all my life." - Jolie to Esquire July 2007
"I was distressed when this desperate situation was brought to my attention. I hope to encourage other people to make themselves aware of this crisis facing the Western Saharan refugees and do what they can to help." - Jolie after donating $100k to the Western Saharan Refugees statement.
"If I ever have a relationship again, I don't think he'll be an actor. It'll be somebody who can teach me, somebody who's already been inspired in their life to do a lot of things that I haven't even thought of yet, who can make me better as a person." - Jolie quoted to theage.com, April 16, 2004
"In March Ms. Jolie married the English actor Jonny Lee Miller ("Trainspotting"), whom she met on the set of 'Hackers'. The wedding, a small civil ceremony attended only by her mother and Mr. Miller's best friend, was a testament to Ms. Jolie's offbeat approach to life. Mr. Miller wore black leather, while the bride donned black rubber pants and a white shirt with the groom's name written in her blood across the back. Why, you ask? 'It's your husband,' she answers with a sly grin. 'You're about to marry him. You can sacrifice a little to make it really special.' [She drew the blood herself, 'very carefully,' she says 'with a clean surgical needle.']" - From The New York Times, Aug. 25, 1996
"Mr. Voight and Angelina's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, deliberately gave their two children middle names that would work as last names so they could choose anonymity. 'It's kind of hard for the children of leading actors,' Mr. Voight says. 'If they say, 'Oh, you're Jon Voight's daughter,' then there are some expectations." - From "Following, Ambivalently, in Mom or Dad's Footsteps" by Alexandra Bandon, The New York Times, Aug. 25, 1996
"My life belongs to him," Jolie says now. "That thing I used to have when something would go wrong, that place of self-destruction or addiction or craziness, when you have a child you can't afford that and you just don't. When your world falls apart or you're feeling really depressed, you pick yourself up and smile so they don't worry." - Jolie talking about her adopted son Maddox Rolling Stones, July 24, 2003
"She looks the most beautiful when she's in the field - natural, no makeup, nothing... It doesn't get any better than that." - Wyclef Jean on Jolie, to People magazine, May 8, 2006
"There was a time when I was really going to give up on acting, right after 'Foxfire'. I was trying to find characters with a certain strength and things going on, but I was always disappointed. '[George] Wallace' was the first thing I did where I felt their ideas were better than mine." - Jolie quoted in GQ, December 1998
"When people talk about me they talk about my intensity. Angie has that same intensity." - Jon Voight quoted in Premiere, January 1999
"You're young, you're drunk, you're in bed, you have knives, shit happens." - Jolie
Angelina legally changed her last name from Voight to Jolie on September 12, 2002.
Jolie was named "World's Most Beautiful" by People magazine (2006) and with her family (Pitt, Maddox and Zahara) was named "World's Most Beautiful family"
Jolie was named one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People for 2004.

A Passionate Musician - The Soul of Steven Seagal

Music is the language of the Gods that can bring all people together and, for this reason, music is an important part of my life.

    - Steven Seagal

Steven got his first guitar at the age of 12 and has been playing the blues since. He has honed his craft over the years sharing his love for the blues and jamming with the most prolific blues legends in the industry. But it was not until Steven's mother influenced him to "let the world hear his music", that he released his first album, "Songs from The Crystal Cave", in 2004.

Like "Songs From the Crystal Cave", his latest release, "Mojo Priest", celebrates the power of many of the musical influences that have compelled Steven to write and bring the art of story telling to his songs. Critically acclaimed as one of the best blues albums released this year, "Mojo Priest" captures the essence of not only Steven's smooth yet gritty guitar style, but also the essence of blues greats such as Muddy Waters, BB King, Bo Diddley, Robert Lockwood Jr, Ko Ko Taylor, James Cotton, Willie "Pine Top" Perkins and Hubert Sumlin.

Steven is an accomplished guitar player and his style of classic and modern blues is personified in a way that only Steven Seagal can accomplish. Even the amazing BB King was quoted as saying "Steven is great at Guitar". His natural talent and commitment to capture blues in a traditional and meaningful manner is evident in the music he writes and plays.
